Technological innovations and scientific breakthroughs remain confidential in transit with comprehensive security measures
Challenge
The Weizmann Institute of Science is a world-renowned research facility that is at the forefront of international scientific inquiry and investigation. The Institute works in tandem with the firm Yeda Research and Development Co., Ltd. to commercialize and market its findings.
In this capacity, Yeda’s employees regularly collaborate and interact with representatives of many of the world’s largest pharmaceutical, technology, and manufacturing firms. Often, these discussions and negotiations necessitate the transfer of large files and other research materials to partners both inside and outside the enterprise.
The potential market value of the intellectual property that Yeda exchanges with its partners on a daily basis is so great as to be almost incalculable. Yet the large size of these files often entailed the use of FTP, a transfer method that has long been known to be risky in terms of security and potential data leaks. In addition, the complexity of the FTP process offered required extensive assistance and intervention from IT personnel.
Safe-T Solution
Considering Yeda’s potential vulnerability to breaches or leaks of sensitive data, company officials were seeking a file transfer system with multiple high-level security options. Safe-T’s secured download links, one-time passwords, advanced encryption capabilities, and comprehensive audit-trail documentation fit the bill. Because the company frequently distributes large files to other organizations, the Safe-T system’s ease of use for external users was also an advantage. After a brief and problem-free implementation, Yeda and its partner organizations began using the Safe-T system to manage the file transfer process.
Results
Once the Safe-T managed file transfer system was in place, all of Yeda’s file transfer dilemmas were satisfactorily resolved. Safe-T’s multi-faceted suite of security measures grants Yeda employees confidence and peace of mind, even when they are transferring highly sensitive and valuable research data and intellectual property. The system’s secured download links, one-time passwords, advanced encryption capabilities, and comprehensive audit-trail documentation have served to significantly increase the integrity and confidentiality of Yeda’s file transfers both inside and outside the enterprise.
The ease of use of the Safe-T system has also been a major benefit for the Yeda team. Because large files can be transferred by non-technical personnel directly from Outlook or with the user-friendly web interface, Yeda’s IT staff is no longer inundated with requests to assist with FTP transfers. In addition, because external clients and partners can easily use and configure the Safe-T system to receive and reply to large file transfers, Yeda has the ability to exchange information freely while still maintaining the most stringent security measures.
