What is managed file transfer?

Managed File Transfer (MFT) is the process of transferring large data files inside and outside of an organization using a software or hardware solution that manages, secures, and automates the process. As part of the management functionality, the solution provides full audit trails, including the IP addresses of the sender and receiver, whether a file transfer was successful, and the date and time of the transfer. This information can assist in complying with various government and industry regulations such as Sarbanes-Oxley, GLBA, PCI, HIPAA, ITAR and more.

How do I email or transfer large files using the Safe-T Solution?

Files and folders of any size may be sent on an ad-hoc basis using the Safe-T Plug-In for Microsoft Outlook, an intuitive web interface, or the Safe Explorer IE, an extension to Windows Explorer. Whichever Safe-T solution you use, the process is simple enough to be used by non-technical employees in any Enterprise. For automatically sending files on an event-driven or time-related basis, you can use Safe-T Automation.

Can recipients securely return files to me?

Yes, external partners, customers or suppliers can use the solution's SafeReply feature to securely send you files of any size. You simply email them an invitation to submit a file and they can send you a file using the Safe-T Web GUI. They do not have to install any software, plug-ins or use ActiveX.

What is the maximum file size?

There is no maximum file size. Any number or size files and folders may be sent with the Safe-T Solution. All large email attachments are offloaded to the Safe-T Enterprise Server, relieving strain on your email system and keeping your email client fully operational. When sending a file with Safe-T Plug-In for Microsoft Outlook, there is no downtime to Outlook or your PC during file transfer.

How do I know if my file went through or if it was downloaded?

The Safe-T Solution emails you a receipt when your "package" has been downloaded.

What types of encryption are supported?

The solution offers integrated encryption for AES 256, PDF and PGP/GPG. Using Safe-T's completely flexible Business Logic, you can quickly add support for additional types of encryption.

What types of security measures do you have for securely sending data?

The solution offers a variety of security measures including the use of secure protocols, email encryption, "package" encryption, one-time passwords that can be sent via SMS, email or given over the telephone.

Do I need to purchase special equipment or servers to install the system?

The Safe-T Solution is very cost effective and can leverage your existing resources, including server storage, LDAP directories, code libraries and more. A typical implementation can be completed very quickly, ranging from a few hours to a day or two.

What types of reporting and audit trails are offered by the solution?

The reporting and audit trails including the recording of the IP addresses of the sender and receiver, whether a file transfer was successful, the date and times of the transfer. This information can assist in complying with various government and industry regulations such as GLBA, Sarbanes-Oxley, HIPPA, FDA, and more.

Which parameters of the Safe-T Solution are configurable?

Why is the Safe-T Web GUI based on Flash?

As a collaborative tool, the Safe-T Web GUI is based on Flash to provide the smoothest experience for users inside or outside the enterprise network. By using a Flash-based GUI, users inside the network can send or download attachments without installing any software such as Active X or Java. This layer of complexity is completely avoided, as are the accompanying security risks and support issues. Flash offers users outside the network the advantages of internals. In addition, remote support issues and any potential conflicts with your partner's IT policy regarding software installation are completely avoided.

What is the ROI of the solution?

The ROI can differ from company to company, depending on how the Safe-T Solution is implemented. With issues like security and risk mitigation, Safe-T is much like an insurance policy: the ROI may be hard to calculate although the cost of an audit or penalties can be on the verge of catastrophic.
